“The Spiders from Mars fronted by a cardboard sign-waving doomsday prophet.”

“Mutated punk songs played with jazz chords.”

Whatever people say about The Empty Mirror, it’s clear that these young men take in and reflect back their influences (The Smashing Pumpkins, Elliott Smith, Frederic Chopin, NES) in new, only slightly recognizable ways. Inventive structures, whispers transforming into giant waves of electric guitar, and an unreliable narrator make every song of theirs a true experience. The group formed in Oberlin, Ohio in 2005 and relocated to Seattle in 2007. Overwhelm, The Empty Mirror’s first album, is now available.
